Itineraries

Day 1

Arrival and Introduction

Meet the tour staff in Georgetown, then travel by bus along the Linden-Lethem Road to Surama Village, a Makushi Amerindian community in the North Rupununi Savannahs, surrounded by the Pakaraima Mountains. 

Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed by village hosts and introduced to their way of life. Walk through the surrounding forest and savannah, where your guides will point out wildlife, medicinal plants, and traditional survival techniques the Makushi people use.

Day 2

River Adventure and Night Walk

After breakfast, set off on a canoe expedition along the Burro-Burro River, a waterway running through the rainforest. As you paddle through the dense jungle, keep an eye out for parrots, toucans, monkeys, and other wildlife that thrive along the riverbanks. 

The North Rupununi region is home to many endangered species, including jaguars and harpy eagles, making conservation efforts critical to protecting their habitat. Organisations like the WWF Guianas work to safeguard this fragile ecosystem. 

After lunch, go back to the village and enjoy some free time before heading out on an evening walk through the jungle. As night falls, listen to the calls of nocturnal creatures and watch as the forest comes alive with insects, frogs, and possibly even nigh-dwelling mammals.

Day 3

Jungle Walk & Traditional Fishing

After breakfast you will go on a hiking expedition through the rainforest with an Amerindian guide. You'll learn about their medicinal plants and survival techniques, including how they imitate bird calls. 

In the afternoon, you'll embark on a traditional fishing adventure, and if successful, you'll enjoy your catch cooked over an open fire.

Day 4

Wildlife Tracking &

Wake up early to explore the river, where birds and mammals are most active at dawn. After breakfast, head into the jungle with your guide to track wildlife along hidden trails. 

In the afternoon, paddle across a nearby lake in traditional canoes, keeping your eyes peeled for more wildlife along the shoreline.

Day 5

Rupununi River Adventure

After your last break at camp, you'll break camp and travel upstream on the Rupununi River, a key waterway linking the rainforests to the Savannah. Along the way, look out for giant river otters, caimans, and tropical birds along the riverbanks. 

Arrive at the riverside campsite, where you'll set up for the night. Enjoy a traditional fishing experience in the afternoon, learning local catching techniques before cooking your catch over a bushfire.

Day 6

Georgetown

On your last day, you'll enjoy a final riverside breakfast in the rainforest. After packing up, travel by boat to
