Apoteri is a community in the Upper Takatu, Upper Essequibo region of Guyana, near the confluence of the Rupununi River with the Essequibo, at an altitude of 177 feet (53 meters). There is an airstrip near Apoteri.

The name Apoteri comes from a tree given by the Arawaks, an indigenous people of South America. The history and development of Apoteri village are closely tied to the balata industry. In 1970 Apoteri was formed as a base for the business firm, Booker Brothers, McConnell & Company, popularly known as Bookers. Workers from all over the region came to work there, mainly from villages in the south Rupununi, such as Shea, Sand Creek, Sawariwau and Krowdar. Today the village has several tribes, including Patamona, Wapashina and Makushi.

The main activities in the community are agriculture, farming cash crops, growing peanuts, and fishing, which all take place on a small scale. Nowadays, sport fishing and the resulting tourist dollars ensure the sustainability of Apoteri. The village benefits from working rotationally as porters, captains, maids, chefs, guides, etc. We welcome you on our fishing adventure of a lifetime!

The two main seasons for fishing are February to April and September to November, when the weather is more stable, and the water is warmer.
