Epic tour: Trinidad, Tobago and Guyana 30 days


Itinerary

Day 1 Sunday:
Upon arrival, privately met and transfer to hotel for overnight. In the evening, you will be transferred to Bucco Reef where you will enjoy steel pan entertainment, dancing and great cuisine under the stars!

 Day 2: Monday
Tobago Island tour (2 1/2 hours) -This tour virtually takes us on a scenic drive around the island. We venture along the Leeward side of the island through Plymouth and Arnos Vale.  The tour continues through Moriah where fork tales and superstition still hold their own. The beautiful blue waters of the Caribbean Sea at Englishman’s Bay and Parlatuvier provide the backdrop for ideal photo opportunities. Afterwards, a sightseeing tour of Scarborough, including the fort, Shopping District and Botanical Gardens. Continue along west coast to Store Bay via Plymouth and Mt. Irvine Resort and Golf Course area and along gorgeous palm studded beaches. Return to your hotel for overnight. (B)

Day 3 Tuesday:  
Tobago Diving -Tobago is a haven for scuba diving.  Enjoy a scenic drive up the East Coast to the picturesque village of Speyside. You will be taken by boat to some of the prime diving spots. Explore this magnificent underwater world, searching for lost treasure or sunken ships. Your tour includes two dives. A delightful lunch and a drink area are also included. (B)(L)

Day 4 Wednesday: 
Snorkeling -Pick up at 10:00 am from your hotel and transfer to Pigeon Point Beach Resort where you will join the crew for an exciting snorkeling trip to Bucco Reef. Here, you will enjoy a full day of swimming and snorkeling at Bucco Reef and the Nylon pool. First, you will swim in the waist deep water of Bucco Reef where you’ll also find multi coloured fishes, and fantastic coral gardens. Then, continue to Nylon pool, which is shallow and allows for swimming. The tour ends at 3:30 p.m. Transfer to hotel. (B)

Day 5 Thursday: 
Relax. (B) Visit magnificent waterfalls; the Silver and Gold waterfalls are exquisite. Return to hotel for overnight.

Day 6 Friday :  
Rainforest tour -Enjoy an early morning rainforest walk, look forward to a picnic breakfast, then snorkel it off at Angel Reef in Speyside, relax over lunch at the Tree House, then end the day with a drive into Charlotteville and a visit to the Argyle waterfalls. Spend the day hiking on the rain-forest tour. Enjoy the flora and fauna of Tobago, and some magnificent sights as well. Climb to Pigeon Peak, the highest point of Tobago. Visit magnificent waterfalls, the Silver and Gold waterfalls are exquisite. Return to hotel for overnight. BL

Day 7 Saturday:
Morning relax –then fly to Trinidad & Port of Spain -Transfer from your hotel to the airport foor your flight to Trinidad (FLT time: 11:30 am). Upon arrival in POS you will be transferred to Kapok Hotel for overnight. B

Day 8 Sunday: Chagaramas/ Gapsree Island/ Caroni Swamp -
8:00 am Pick up to begin your tour. This morning you will depart at from your hotel, and drive to Chagaramas for a tour of the surrounding areas of Chagaramas, and of Gapsree Island. Lunch at Crews Inn.  At 2:30 p.m you will be transferred to Caroni Swamp for a bird watching experience. The Caroni Swamp is a wild life reserve in Central Trinidad. It is home for a diverse range of animals. From our little river launch, you can view anteaters, caymans, snakes, cranes, or one of the many migratory birds. The highlight of this tour is our National Bird, the Scarlet Ibis. This swamp is one of a few places it makes its home. Late return to hotel for overnight.  BLD

Day 9 Monday:  Covigne River Trail & Kayaking in Williams’ Bay -
8:00 am departure from hotel to the Covigne River trail. On this tour you will hike up a branch of the Cuesa River, where the trail takes you through cocoa, coffee and nutmeg plantations, a twisting gorge, and up a waterfall too cool green pool where you can bathe. Afterwards, you will enjoy a Kayaking experience at Williams bay, before returning to your hotel. BLD

Day 10 Tuesday: Island Tour / Transfer to Asa Wright -
Our tour provides an opportunity to experience the pulse of Trinidad, as we drive through the bustling city of Port of Spain. Here you will find numerous art galleries, restaurants, souvenir shops, and a whole lot of commerce. We find ourselves in Old Abercrombie Street, passing Red House and continuing to the Hall of justice, Trinity Cathedral, Woolford Square, Queen Park Savannahs, Royal Cottage, White Hall, the Magnificent Seven, Botanical Gardens, and more… We’ll visit the birthplace of Steelpan and Mas Camp (costume design). Late evening transfer to Asa Wright center. BLD

Day 11-13   Wednesday - Friday:  Asa Wright Centre- 
The center lies 1200 feet up on the Northern Range, an old estate house that has become a conservation and study center for naturalists and bird watchers. There are 2300 flowering plants, 108 mammals, 460 birds, 55 reptiles, 25 amphibians and more than 630 butterflies and different species. There are guided walks along nature trails at 10: am and 1:30 p.m. You will enjoy a tour of the grounds at Asa Wright center. BLD

Day 13 Friday:  Nariva Swamp in the South East/ then to Mt. Plaisir-
We depart at 9:00 am from our hotel to visit the Nivara Swamp - the largest internationally recognized wetland in the Caribbean. This protected area is approx. 3840 acres or 1554 hectares. Inside and on the funges of the wetland is the peninsula known as the “Bush Bush Sanctuary”. This is where we will be heading from your Limeland Base. The wetland flora and fauna are unique and beautiful and is the best place in Trinidad and Tobago to view the Red-Bellied Macaw darting from the palm treetops. The comical, almost clock-work flight of the yellow-headed parrots and their chatters are guaranteed to be seen and heard. The Manatee lives here also. Upon arrival we will walk a short distance through the trail to safely view the Red Howler Monkeys.   We may also be lucky to see the white fronted Weeping Capuchin monkey. Tropical butterflies, large apple snails and local medicinal plants are to be admired within this special place. Blue and Yellow macaws, Amazonian parrots, raptors, kingfishers, whistling ducks, hummingbirds, limpkins, vultures, red-breasted blackbirds…in fact 34 families representing 171 bird species in all. Late afternoon transfer to Grande Riverie and overnight at Mt. Plaisir. BLD

Day 14: Saturday: Search for PIGING GUAN and Shark river tour /Mt. Plaisir -Early morning walk will take you in search of the Piging Guan and to Shark River.  Rest of the afternoon is free to relax. BLD

Day 15: Sunday- Fly to Georgetown. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel, located in the center of the Capital Georgetown. B

Day 16: Monday - Karanambu Ranch: - After breakfast, this morning you will be transferred for your flight to Karanambu Ranch. Karanambu is one of Guyana 's leading eco tourism destinations, popular because of the well-publicized interest of its owner, Diane McTurk, in conserving the endangered giant river otter. Located in the Rupununi, Karanambu offers that sense of serenity and is a home away from home. The facilities of the lodge are rustic but comfortable. A typical Amerindian dwelling, being built from burnt bricks and thatched roof. Visitors are welcomed to sample the outdoor activities such as: bird watching, canoeing, caiman spotting and wildlife viewing. Even a swim with the 'Diane's otters' can give a sense of pure satisfaction. Birdlife is rich and varied; both on the savannah and more along the rivers and ponds. On our guided tours we will most likely see the big birds- Jabiru stork, the Great Egret, the Agami Heron and the Great Blue Heron- as well as  different species of Kingfishers.  As we move into the ponds we see the Green Ibis, Snowy Egrets, Boatbill heron, the Purple Gallinule and the Wattled Jacana both stepping on the large Victoria Amazonian lilies. Overnight at Karanambu. BLD

Day 17: Tuesday -Karanambu Around the scrub bordering the river we may see the Great and the Lesser Ani (the local old witch).  Other birds include the Red Cap Cardinal, the Pale Vented Pigeon, Fork-tailed Flycatcher, Quail running quickly in and out of the trail, The Southern Lapwing, Savannah Hawk . Overnight at Karanambu Ranch. BLD

Day 18: Wednesday: Karanambu  Ranch to Rock View -Transfer by boat and 4X4 vehicle to Rock View Lodge. Upon arrival at Rock View Lodge you will be given a warm welcome before settling down in your accommodation. In the afternoon, you will be introduced to the surroundings at Rock View.  BLD

 Day 19: Thursday: Rock View to Surama / Burro Burro-Rise before dawn for a drive to Surama Village. On Arrival in Surama receive a welcome from the village counselor and settle into your accommodation. A local guide will escort you for a short walk on trails to observe the forest and bird life. As the afternoon cools your guide will take you on a tour of the village. Visit the local school, medical center and church along with some of the village houses. Tonight enjoy an educational walk to observe wildlife and experience the mystique of the forest after dark. Overnight at Surama Eco Lodge. LD

Day 20: Friday:  Surama Mountian climb & Burro Burro river- Rise before dawn for a walk across the savannah and then climb up Surama Mountian in cool morning air. This is the best time to observe bird life along the trail. Breakfast will be served at a look out point, which affords incredible views across the village and savannah to the Pakaraima Mountains. Return to the Village for lunch and then in the cool of the afternoon take a three-mile walk across the savannah and through the rainforest to the Burro Burro River to observe Gianat Otters, Tapir, Tira, Spider Monkeys and many more species. Return to village for sunset and to overnight at Surama Eco- Lodge. BLD

Day 21: Saturday Surama/ Iwokrama -After breakfast, transfer by 4X4 to the Canopy Walkway for a spectacular and exhilarating experience of the tropical rainforest canopy. Observe the wildlife and birdlife from 35m up in the trees. The walkway is the only of its kind in the Guiana Shield. You will also trasfer along the trail of the elusive jaguar, and might come up lucky! Afterwards, you will be transferred to the field station, and relax for a few hours, before embarking on your tour of  Fair View village, an Amerindian community located within the grounds of the Reserve. Learn about their traditional way of life. Transfer to the Field station for overnight. In the evening, you will depart the field station for a short boat ride along the Essequibo River to spot caiman and other nocturnal wildlife. BLD

Day 22: Sunday Iwokrama/ Jagaur Spotting/ Hike up turtle mountain: At dawn, we will transfer you along the road (trail) with the hope of spotting the elusive jaguar, which is often spotted crossing the road. Afterwards, you will travel by boat for half an hour to the foot of Turtle Mountain then commence a leisurely stroll up the mountain to its summit at 953ft (approx. 106m). This mildly challenging stroll takes about 1 to 1 1/2hr. to walk up the mountain, but the effort is more than worth it for the breathtaking views over the forest canopy when you get up there. Late return to field Station for overnight. BLD

Day 23: Monday: Iwokrama/ Georgetown – Fly to Georgetown and transfer to your hotel for overnight. BL

Day 24: Tuesday:  Georgetown City tour -Morning city tour of Georgetown. Most of the buildings in the city are wooden with unique architecture dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The main street in Georgetown provides several excellent examples of old colonial homes, a prime example of which is the State House, built in 1852.The most famous building is which is one of the world's tallest freestanding wooden buildings and was consecrated on 1892. At the beginning of the Avenue of the Republic stands the Public Library housed in the Carnegie Building. Other historic buildings along this promenade are the Town Hall, a splendid example of Gothic architecture, and further along are the Victoria Law Courts and St. Andrews Kirk. St. Andrew's is the oldest surviving structure of any church in Guyana.  Then continue to the Demerara Harbour Bridge. The Demerara Harbour Bridge is the longest floating bridge in the world and connects the east and west banks of the Demerara River. BL

Day 25-28: Wednesday –Saturday Essequibo River tour & Marshall Falls. Island resort-Travel by car to the town of Parika crossing the longest floating bridge in the world – the Demerara Harbour Bridge. On arrival join a boat, which takes you to the OLD DUTCH FORT - Fort Island - which is approximately 16 km from the mouth of the mighty Essequibo River.  On this island are two structures: Fort  Zeelandia  (constructed in 1744)  and   the  Court of  Policy  or Dutch Church. During the period of Dutch occupation the Fort and the Court of  Policy  were part of a large urban settlement that  extended along the northeastern section of the island.  This  was the seat  of the Dutch administration in the colony of Essequibo. With a history dating back to 1745, the plantation era, this Island housed the seat of Dutch Colonial Government . A fort was established for the security of the colony of Demerara.
Next day you will boat down Mazaruni River, and ride along rapids into Marshall Falls. A short hike to Whitewater Falls where a picnic lunch will be served under the forest canopy. See Kyk-over-al, the oldest fort in Guyana which was originally named Fort ter Hoogen after an Influential Dutch gentleman but was later changed  to Kyk-over-al," as a result of its strategic location that allowed for the view over the Essequibo River and its tributaries.  On the third day you will spend some time discovering the mining town of  Bartica before visiting the Amerindian village of Foul mouth. Fourth day is free to relax, swim or lie in a hammock.  BLD

Day 29: Sunday – Kaieteur Falls tour-Depart the island resort for your tour of Kaiateur Falls 

Day 30: Monday – Departure-Pick up from Hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight to Tobago.
