Guyana birds

Duration: 10 days/9 nights

This tour is offered to birding enthusiasts who are willing to discover new birding destinations off the beaten path, while exploring new cultures. It explores habitats in the capital city, Iwokrama rainforest Reserve, and Karanambu ranch. One may encounter the Magnificent Frigate birds, brown Pelicans, black crowned night-heron, yellow crowned heron, and little blue heron in the city on any given day. Sightings of Jaburi Storks, Roseate Spoonbills, Wood Storks, Black Skimmers, Boat Billed, Herons, and Muscovy ducks, Black-necked Aracari, Screaming Piha, Grey-chinned Hermit, Crested Oropendola, Blue-and-Yellow Macaw and Black Curassow rare Cock-of -the -Rock, are common at Iwokrama and Karanambu.
 Itinerary:

Day 1:- Arrival
Arrive at CIJ, met and privately transferred to your hotel

Day 2 :
Georgetown City & Birding in the Botanical Gardens & Zoological Park:-
Georgetown walking city tour and two-hour bird watching in the botanical gardens and national park where you will come across many birds including Brown Pelicans, Solitary Sandpipers , Neotropic Cormorants, Magnificent Frigatebirds, Blacked-Crowned Night-Herons, yellow crowned heron, little blue heron, Pearl Kite, Long-winged Harrier, Snail (Everglade) Kite, Roadside Hawk, Rufous Crab-Hawk, White-tailed Hawk, Zone-tailed Hawk, Limpkin, Southern Lapwing, Semipalamated Plover, Laughing Gull and many more species. Return in the afternoon to your hotel. Breakfast provided.

Day 3:
Flight to Annai/ Iwokrama.
Met by our guide and transfer to Iwokrama Rainforst Reserve for overnight. On your way visit CORT ( Cock- of –the Rock  Trail) and other birding habitats which provide examples of rare birds. Breakfast,lunch and dinner will be provided.

Day 4:
Iwokrama Nature reserve-
After breakfast you will depart on a 30 minute boat ride to the foot of Turtle Mountain for a hike to its 290m summit. You may observe many species of monkeys including the Red Howler, Black Spider, and Wedge -Capped Capuchin. In the afternoon, you wiill take a walk in the nearby forest. You may come across several species of birds including Black-necked Aracari, Screaming Piha, Grey-chinned Hermit, Crested Oropendola, Blue-and-Yellow Macaw and Black Curassow, jaburi storks, roseate spoonbills, wood storks, black skimmers, boat billed, herons, and muscovy ducks.
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner will be provided.

Day 5:
- Iwokrama/ Cock-of - the- Rock site- 
Early morning departure for the Cock-of-the-Rock site where this rare bird nests.  Breakfast will be served at the site. Breakfast Lunch and Dinner will be provided.

Day 6:
- To Karanambu- 
Depart by 4 x4 vehicle to Karanambu Ranch. Karanambu Ranch has a rich variety of bird life both on the savannah and more along the rivers and ponds. On our guided tours we will most likely see the big birds- Jabiru stork, the Great Egret, the Agami Heron and the Great Blue Heron- as well as  different species of Kingfishers.  As we move into the ponds we see the Green Ibis, Snowy Egrets, Boatbill heron, the Purple Gallinule and the Wattled Jacana both stepping on the large Victoria Amazonian lilies.   Breakfast Lunch and Dinner will be provided.

Day 7: Karanambu birding -
Around the scrub bordering tthe river we see the Great and the Lesser Ani (the local old witch).  Other birds include the Red Cap Cardinal, the Pale Vented Pigeon, Fork-tailed Flycatcher, Quail running quickly in and out of the trail, The Southern Lapwing, Savannah Hawk. Breakfast Lunch and Dinner will be provided.

Day 8:- Karanambu/ Hoatzin Georgetown- 
Depart Karanambu and transfer to Georgetown and to your hotel. Afternoon birding in the Mahaica River for Hoatzin, Guyan's National Bird known locally as the Canjie Pheasant. Return to hotel for overnight. B/fast  provided.

Day 9: Sloth Island/Parrot Island birding:
Early departure overland by bus to Parika and then join a boat to Sloth Island reserve. After checking in and a light snack, we will continue our birding tour of the wonderful natural environment where we may encounter over 120 species of birds including Red-shouldered Macaws, Golden-winged and White-eyed parakeets, Orange-winged Parrots, Black-spotted Barbets, a Marail Guan, Channel-billed and White-throated toucans, Bat Falcons, and many more species. Breakfast,lunch and dinner provided.

Day 10:-
Return flight home. 
Depart Georgetown and transfer to airport for check in. Depart Guyana.
